Governor Rick Perry has signed legislation allowing the formation of a University of North Texas Law School in Dallas. This law school will join two other Dallas-Fort Worth law schools, Southern Methodist’s Dedman School of Law and Texas Weslayan University’s School of Law.

Both the other area schools are privately funded, making the UNT law school the first public law school in the area. The school is expected to open its doors to its first class in 2011 and will hire a dean, assistant dean and staff in the meantime.

Microsoft has been hiring Yahoo executives recently. Most recent was Yahoo’s Operations Vice President Kevin Timmons. He will now lead a data center services team for Microsoft, joining several other former Yahoo executives.

The others include another former Yahoo VP, Larry Heck as well as Qi Lu, Sean Suchter and Scott Moore. In addtion to filling Microsoft’s executive roles, these hirings are leaving space for new Yahoo executives.

The finance industry seems to be experiencing a slight increase in hiring. This may be because so many firms had to get rid of too many employees at the beginning of the recession. Now those firms are trying to take advantage of the highly skilled workforce that is still unemployed.

According to the Labor Department, 30,000 financial services jobs were lost in May and nearly 600,000 have been lost since December of 2006. Recently, however, several firms have been hiring hundreds of employees.
